Rearranging | Damsel

Infinity | Damsel

I worked on this song as a recording and mixing engineer, as well as an instrumentalist playing bass and organ. I was in Boston for most of the recording process which included a bass and drums recording session, vocal session, and piano and guitar session. After these sessions, I returned home and began work mixing the song. It was then decided that the original piano part was too cluttered with the guitar part, as they were both playing a similar rhythm part in the same register. Back in Boston, they re recorded a more melodic part which helped to support the song more. In the bridge and parts of the choruses, the original piano part is still present.

After completing most of the mixing for the song, I felt that the last chorus didn’t have as much impact as I was hoping for, because of that, I decided to add two more things which brought the song together. One of them was the organ part. In my room, I recoded my Conn Martinique theatre organ, which helped add some air and size to the final chorus. The other added touch was the reverse guitar and organ cord that led up to the final chorus. This helped with the impact. Reversed piano can also be heard in other parts of the song such as the intro and choruses, which I believe helped add a nice texture.
